Drawing from improvisation, sound design, and the language of space — ANEZ works at the threshold where sound becomes meaning.

ANEZ is Anesz Szalai and Zoltán Demeter: a Hungarian experimental electronic duo formed in 2011, with a decade of performances across Europe, Japan, and the USA. Their work spans live electronic improvisation, sound installation, film composition, and contemporary dance — always rooted in the idea that music is a living, reactive process.

Live performance — ongoing

Echologia

2026 — ongoing

A live performance experiment: one human voice, transformed in real time. Anesz Szalai's voice is the sole source of sound — looped, layered, and reshaped live by Zoltán Demeter's reactive sound engineering into a fully improvised piece. No samples. No pre-recorded material. Everything you hear is built from scratch in the room, in the moment. Each performance is unique and unrepeatable.

Live album

Plural

2023 — Forspiel Festival, Berlin

Recorded live at Forspiel Festival in Berlin — ANEZ's first fully improvised concert captured as an album. Giant TV lamps from the 1960s responded directly to the music, their light controlled entirely by the sound being made in the room. Plural marked a turning point: away from composed material and toward the radical openness of total live improvisation that now defines their experimental electronic music practice.

About the Residency

A 30sqm clay house on a wine-hill near Belezna, south-west Hungary — three kilometres from the village, toward the Croatian border. A place designed not for comfort but for focus. No distractions. No audiences. Just time, space, and sound.

LAK welcomes artists for short and mid-length residencies focused on music, sound, and interdisciplinary work. The residency offers a private rehearsal and recording space, access to ANEZ's equipment, and the undisturbed quiet of the Hungarian countryside. Capacity is intentionally small — one guest at a time — to keep the environment concentrated and the exchange genuine.

LAK is also home base, and the site of a growing micro-festival. A stage is being built. A sound installation is in development. The first guests have already arrived.

Background & Training

ANEZ was formed in Hungary in 2011. Anesz Szalai is a singer, electronic music producer and sound designer. Zoltán Demeter is a bass player, sound designer and music producer. Both have extensive backgrounds in composition and performance, with classical and jazz training — a foundation they have spent years deliberately unlearning in favour of radical improvisation.

Based in Berlin for a decade, they performed across Europe, Japan, and the USA. Their output spans studio albums, live electronic performance, film composition, and contemporary dance — including releases on Chi-Recordings and Mamazone Recordings, and appearances at festivals and venues across Central Europe. They are now building a new chapter rooted in the Hungarian countryside.

ANEZ has been described by Recorder Magazine as "the flagships of the intellectual electronic music scene" — a reputation built on a practice that refuses fixed forms. Their experimental electronic music has been featured at events in Berlin's underground circuit, including the Forspiel Festival, and written about by international press and labels including 2419 Record Label and Katarkombe Berlin.

Recorder Magazine
"A skillful experimental duo with a symbiotic bond of experimental sounds, visuals and theatrical sceneries."
